Korey Charles: “I loved it”

By Hale McGranahan.

Korey Charles, one of the top athletes in the class of 2016, visited Clemson on Saturday for the Tigers’ 16-6 win over Syracuse.

It was trip No. 2 to Clemson for the junior from North Florida Christian in Tallahassee. On Sunday, he spoke with TheClemsonInsider.

“It was a very nice experience,” Charles said. “I enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was great and I loved it.”

His first trip to Clemson was in July, when he was on campus the same day as the All In Cookout.

This visit, Charles said, was a first-class experience.

“That was nice. They treated me really good. They treated me like royalty over there, which is a nice feeling,” he said. “I talked to all the coaches while I was there, so that was good.”

Charles was also impressed with the Clemson fans.

“I did like the fans and how friendly they were, how they got went along with the whole Clemson football thing,” he said. “I guess you could say that stood out to me.”

This season, his only other campus visits were to Florida State for the Notre Dame and Clemson games.

According to Rivals, Charles is the No. 18 athlete in the class of 2016. Also a four-star prospect on ESPN, there he’s classified as a running back.

Clemson hasn’t made a definitive decision on where he would play for the Tigers.

“They still want me as an athlete, but I talked to coach (Jeff) Scott and he still wants me to play receiver for them,” Charles said. “If they want me to switch up and play DB, I could do that.”

Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Miami, UNC, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are among the schools that have offered Charles, who said he’s wide-open with his recruitment.

“No top five,” he said, “No top three, no favorites right now.”

Through seven games this season, Charles has 735 yards on 135 carries and six touchdowns. He’s also caught 10 passes for 97 yards.
