Catching up with Huggins

Things are about to speed up for Albert Huggins.

Focused on his senior season, the four-star defensive tackle from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School hasn’t taken a recruiting visit since the summer.

“Now that our season is over, now, I can really look at the options, weigh them out and see where I want to go,” Huggins told TheClemsonInsider earlier this week.

A number of schools continue to receive consideration.

“It’s a lot of them, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, UNC — I’m still considering Florida State, Auburn, they’re still in there. It’s a lot of them,” Huggins said.

Clemson, Florida, Georgia and UNC, Huggins said, are recruiting him the hardest.

Defensive ends coach Marion Hobby continues to serve as the Tigers’ primary recruiter.

“He treats me like a son, talks to me like a son. He gives me advice whenever I need it. We keep it real with each other. There’s nothing I can’t tell him. We’ve got a strong relationship,” Huggins said.

He’s watched several Clemson games this season, including last Thursday night’s win at Wake Forest.

“I was looking at the defensive line. They did a pretty good job,” Huggins said. “Vic Beasley had a pretty good game. I like how he comes off the ball. He’s a fast guy. I see a lot of coaching out there…Clemson pulled out the win, so it was a good game. (Grady) Jarrett, he had a good game. (Shaq) Lawson had a good game. It was, overall, a good game for the defensive line.”

Exactly which defensive line Huggins will join is still up in the air. With a December graduation rapidly approaching, he knows it’s getting down to crunch time, so the decision will be made before too long.

“It will probably be a couple of weeks before the (Army All-American) game,” Huggins said, “But I don’t know. I can’t really tell you. That’s why I need to go out there and get some visits, to see how it goes.”
