Tigers picked third in ACC Atlantic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Clemson baseball team has been picked to finish third in the ACC Atlantic Division by the leagues 14 head coaches behind Florida State and Louisville.

Virginia has been selected as the preseason favorite. The Cavaliers were named by 10 coaches as the team to beat for the second straight year, while Florida State received four first place votes.

Virginia, which reached the Finals of the College World Series last year, was named by 13 coaches as the likely Coastal Division winner. Defending Coastal champion Miami received one vote for first place. The Cavaliers totaled 97 points in the voting (seven points for a first place vote, six for second place, etc.), and are followed by North Carolina (78), Miami (75), defending ACC champion Georgia Tech (54), Duke (43), Virginia Tech (24), and Pitt (21).

Florida State received seven of the possible 14 votes for first place to win the Atlantic, while totaling 91 points. League newcomer Louisville (84 points) collected four first place votes, while Clemson (77) received three votes for first place. Rounding out the Atlantic Division are NC State (53), Wake Forest (39), Notre Dame (25), and Boston College (23).

All 14 ACC teams open the 2015 season with nonconference games on Feb. 13. The 2015 ACC Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 19-24 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
