Ready to sign on the dotted line

Gage Cervenka will be one step closer to fulfilling his dream on Wednesday when he signs with Clemson.

The three-star defensive tackle from Emerald High School has been committed to the Tigers since April. He’ll sign a National Letter of Intent to play for Dabo Swinney on Wednesday morning.

“I’m super excited. I can’t wait,” Cervenka told TheClemsonInsider, during a recent interview. “I’m very, very happy that I get this opportunity. Not a lot of people get the opportunity to go play division one ball, especially at a school like Clemson.

“The future is very bright for Clemson. I can’t wait to get up there and be apart of it and have my name beside Clemson University.”

Cervenka got a glimpse of his future late last month when he took his official visit.

“It was fun, he said. “I had a great time getting up there with the guys, getting to hang out with some of the players that are there and some of the early enrollees…it was like five of us there, kind of hanging out. They showed us around, seeing what’s up there, what it’s like to be a student there, because it’s a lot different than going up there on a game day. I thought that was pretty cool. Got to meet with the coaches and talk with them a lot more. It was fun.”

Cervenka hosted Swinney for his in-home a few days before the trip.

“We were just kind of enjoying the time together. We went out to eat and had some pizza. That was about it,” Cervenka said.

The Semper Fidelis All-American looks forward to starting his Clemson career in just under five months.

“My first real goal is to get a starting spot,” Cervenka said. “For a team goal, I hope everybody strives for, to be in the national championship, to get to the playoffs and be ACC Champion and all that, definitely to win a championship.

“My goal is to get up there, prove who I am and get a starting spot.”
