Around the ACC

How did all of the other ACC teams do on Signing Day?

According to the 247 composite team rankings, only Florida State finished higher among ACC teams as the No. 3 class in the country. Clemson was eighth-best while Miami was just one place outside of the top 25.

1 (3) – Florida State – 20

Jimbo Fisher’s 20-man class includes four five stars and 10 four-star prospects. Safety Derwin James and defensive end Josh Sweat headline the class, which had a surprise Signing Day addition in cornerback Marcus Lewis.

3 (26) – Miami – 21

Despite the late flip by Fort Lauderdale running back Jordan Scarlett, running back Mark Walton and safety Jaquan Johnson, the other big-time local guys stuck with their pledge to The U. Al Golden finished with five four-star prospects and 16 three-stars.

4 (28) – UNC – 19

Larry Fedora signed four four-star prospects. Defensive end Jalen Dalton is the best one. He’ll be one of the country’s top freshmen in 2015. Dalton was also one of the Tar Heels’ signees to enroll in January.

5 (29) – Virginia Tech – 24

Two of the four four-star guys signed by Frank Beamer were offered by Clemson: Tim Settle, the country’s No. 13 ranked defensive tackle, and offensive tackle Austin Clark, the No. 28 offensive tackle.

6 (30) N.C. State – 23

It’s been a while since a coach in the state of North Carolina has done as well as Dave Doeren did in 2015. Three of the state’s top four-star players inked with the Wolfpack. Running back Johnny Frazier flipped from Florida State to join defensive lineman Darian Roseboro and running back Nyheim Hines.

7 (32) Louisville – 24

On Monday, Bobby Petrino told South Carolina Mr. Football Matt Colburn he could come to Louisville as a greyshirt. A day earlier, Petrino added a commitment from former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, who was kicked out of TCU before last season after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

8 (43) Georgia Tech – 27

The group includes Jaylend Ratliffe, a quarterback from North Carolina who fractured his skull in an ATV accident last summer. This may be the best class Paul Johnson has brought to Atlanta. Defensive tackle Kyle Henderson, running back Mikell Lands-Davis, cornerback Dorian Walker and linebacker Tyler Cooksey are among the notable additions.

9 (47) Virginia – 23

After last year’s star-studded haul, Mike London was able to land just one four-star in 2015. Linebacker Jahvoni Simmons figures to get some early run on the Cavaliers’ defense, which already includes a couple of young playmakers in safety Quin Blanding and defensive tackle Andrew Brown.

10 (50) – Duke – 18

Three-star wide receivers T.J. Rahming (5-8, 150) and Keyston Fuller (5-11, 180) aren’t the biggest guys, but they’ll end up being good players for David Cutcliffe.

11 (53) Wake Forest – 24

Running back Rocky Reid, a former Tennessee commitment, is going to be a very good player for Dave Clawson. Same goes for Marlboro County wide receiver Tabari Hines.

12 (57) Boston College – 25

Steve Addazio’s mantra of ‘Be a dude’ is pretty cool. He’s added 25 to the Eagles’ roster. And even though we haven’t heard of any of them, a few are bound to end up being pretty good, because that’s how B.C. rolls.

13 (62) Pittsburgh – 14

First-year head coach Pat Narduzzi managed to land four-star cornerback Jordan Whitehead, the top player from the state of Pennsylvania. If Pitt can keep the former Michigan State coach around for more than a cup of coffee, he’ll sign more guys like Whitehead.

14 (63) Syracuse – 26

Among the players signed by Scott Shafer: Amir Ealy a tight end from Pennsylvania who once attended Dutch Fork High School in Columbia.
