CLEMSON, SC — Here is a look back at Clemson’s (5-2) 11-5 win over Wofford (7-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

What happened?

The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the game’s first lead. After the Terriers answered with a run in the second, Clemson added a run in the third on Reed Rohlman’s first career homer. Wofford had back-to-back two run innings in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-3 lead, but the Tigers wasted little time answering with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead. The Tigers added two more runs in the seventh on a two-run homer from Weston Wilson to stretch the lead to 8-5. Clemson tallied three more runs in the eighth to take home an 11-5 win.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game changed in the bottom of the fifth inning. After the Terriers took their first lead of the game with two runs in the top of the inning, the Tigers answered in the bottom of the frame as they scored three runs on three hits to reclaim the lead for good. The inning got the Clemson offense going as they scored the last eight runs of the game over their final four at-bats while the Tiger bullpen kept the Wofford offense off the board.

What went right?

Rohlman continued his hot start, going 4-for-4 with a double, homer, four runs, and a RBI. Tyler Krieger and Wilson each contributed two hits and three RBI as well as the offense tallied 13 total hits. Reliever Charlie Barnes rebounded from a rough debut as he picked up his first career win with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and retired all 10 batters he faced.

What went wrong?

With almost 12 days between appearances, Tiger starter Clate Schmidt struggled in the middle innings as Wofford was able to put up consecutive two run innings in the fourth and fifth. Schmidt started strong and finished the game with three strikeouts, but allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits, a HBP, and three walks in only 4.2 innings.
