Four-star DE enjoys Clemson, talk with Hobby

Charles Wiley, the No. 10 ranked weak-side defensive end in the class of 2016, made his first visit to Clemson on Saturday for Junior Day.

Shortly after returning home to Stockbridge, Georgia, Wiley spoke with TheClemsonInsider.

“It was a lot of fun. The coaches were real cool. The campus was really nice. I got a lot of 1-on-1 talk with coach (Marion) Hobby,” Wiley said. “I had a good time, me and my family had a great time.”

What stood out?

“The family vibe from the coaches, how nice it was, it was really nice…really, it was the coaches though, the coaches gave me a good feeling at the school.”

Wiley went into detail about what he heard from Hobby.

“He was just talking to me about keeping my eyes open and always looking forward and always getting better,” Wiley said. “Everybody kept saying I reminded them of Vic Beasley.

“(Hobby) said don’t let my success get to my head, always stay hungry. He seemed like he would be a really good mentor and a really good coach.”

Along with Clemson, Wiley owns offers from several programs in the ACC and SEC, including Georgia, Ole Miss, Auburn, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

He’ll attend the Ole Miss Junior Day at the end of the month.

“I haven’t actually been out as much as I should. I’ve really been training, mostly spending my weekends training for the Rivals camp and the Nike Training Camp,” Wiley said.

He added, “After that, I’m really just going to be contacting coaches and contacting colleges and seeing what is a good time I can get to their campus in the spring time.”

As a junior, Wiley recorded 54 tackles, 20 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, a pass deflection and blocked a punt.

“I don’t feel like I’ve been to enough places to put out my top five,” he said. “But definitely when I start visiting more schools, I will definitely be able to. As of right now, no, I’m open to all schools and all colleges. I just need to make sure I get out and visit more.”
