Lake Marion safety Davondre ‘Tank’ Robinson is among the top candidates for billing as the state’s best prospect in 2017.
While on campus for last Saturday’s Junior Day, the 6-1, 200-pound sophomore added the Tigers to his offer sheet.
“That was the highlight of the day,” Robinson told TheClemsonInsider.
He added, “My coach, he was telling me about how they were going to offer me. Then, I went up there to Junior Day and I found out once we got there. Coach (Chris) Carter was telling me that they had offered me.”
What else stood out about the visit?
“The campus, when we went on the tour, we saw the rooms that some of the players were staying in. And they were talking about how they were building a new facility and I liked the stuff they were talking about they were trying to put in there.”
Clemson last had Robinson on campus for the Georgia game in 2013, when he was a freshman.
“The atmosphere was very exciting, I liked the atmosphere. It was so loud,” he said.
Robinson has a pair of trips lined up for later this spring.
“I’m trying to go to Georgia, Louisville, those are two right now that I know of that I’m going,” he said.
A few more stops will be made later this summer.
“I’m trying to get to Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Alabama,” Robinson said.
Along with Clemson, Robinson holds offers from South Carolina, Georgia, UNC, Louisville and Wake Forest.
“I don’t have favorites right now. I’m just seeing what everybody brings to the table,” he said.
As a sophomore, Robinson had 79 tackles, five interceptions and six pass breakups.
