Rohlman, Pinder lead Tigers over Irish

Clemson, SC – Freshmen Reed Rohlman and Chase Pinder each had two RBI’s for the Tigers as they defeated Notre Dame 6-1 in game one Saturday.

Matthew Crownover pitched another outstanding game or the Tigers going 8.0 innings and only giving up three hits, one run and no earned runs.  Crownover threw 106 pitches with six strikeouts and moved to 4-0 on the season.  Clate Schmidt finished the game off for the Tigers.

The Tigers took the lead in the first inning.  With one out Steven Duggar singled to right.  Tyler Krieger singled to right.  Reed Rohlman doubled down the left field line to score Duggar and advance Krieger to third.  Chris Okey grounded out to short scoring Krieger and the Tigers led 2-0 after one.

In the third inning Clemson added another run.  Steven Duggar and Tyler Krieger walked to start the inning.  Reed Rohlman singled up the middle to score Duggar.

Notre Dame got on the board in the sixth with a single run.

Clemson did some two-out magic in the bottom of the sixth.  Weston Wilson singled to left just by the third baseman.  Chase Pinder hit his first home run at a Tiger to make it 5-1 Tigers.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh.  Tyler Slaton walked with one out.  Steven Duggar singled on a hit and run advancing Slaton to third.  Tyler Krieger doubled down the right field line scoring Slaton.  On the play Duggar was thrown out at home and Krieger was thrown out at third.  Clemson led 6-1 after seven.

Clemson moved to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the ACC with the win.  The Tigers and Irish play game two of the series later this afternoon.
