CLEMSON, SC — Here is a look back at Clemson’s (9-8, 2-3 ACC) 11-6 loss to Notre Dame (13-4, 2-3 ACC) in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

What happened?

The Irish scored single runs in the first and second innings before putting up two run frames in the third and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Tigers finally cracked the scoreboard with a big sixth run inning in the sixth to tie the game. Eli White got things started with a double and Tyler Slaton followed with a walk. Steven Duggar got the scoring going with a two-run double and moved to third after Tyler Krieger reached on a throwing error. Reed Rohlman plated Duggar with a single while Krieger came in to score on another error. Chris Okey followed with a double before Weston Wilson plated Rohlman with a sac fly. Chase Pinder drove in Okey for the final run in the inning with a single. Notre Dame scored two unearned runs in the eighth to re-take the lead and added three insurance runs in the ninth to take a 11-6 win and force a rubber match in the series on Sunday.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game changed in the late innings. After Clemson staged a furious comeback to tie the game in the sixth, the Tigers had a chance to take the lead in the seventh. White led off the inning with a triple, but was stranded there to end the threat. After the Irish re-took the lead in the eighth, Clemson again had a chance to plate a run in the bottom of the inning as Okey led off with a double but again stranded a runner at third. Notre Dame then plated three insurance runs, as the Tigers were unable to use their momentum to take the series.

What went right?

Despite trailing 6-0, Clemson showed some fight in the sixth by using their best inning of the season to tie the game. Duggar, Rohlman, Okey, and White each had two hits in the Tigers 10 hit attack. Pat Krall, despite suffering the loss, had a solid outing in relief as he allowed two unearned runs on just two hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

What went wrong?

Brody Koerner struggled in his second straight start, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks in 3.1 innings. Hunter Van Horn also struggled in a second straight appearance as he allowed two runs on a hit and a walk in 0.1 innings. The error bug bit Clemson as four errors led to three unearned runs. The Tigers were unable to capitalize on two great chances in the seventh and eighth innings as they had a runner on third with less than two outs in each inning and could not get the run across.
