Notre Dame takes game 3, series

Clemson, SC –  Notre Dame defeated Clemson 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore to win the series.  The Tigers have now lost three of five series this year.

Zack Erwin went 7.0 innings for the Tigers and gave up nine hits, three runs and one earned run.  Alex Bostic pitched the eighth and gave up one hit, two runs and two earned runs.  Taylor Vetzel pitched the ninth for Clemson and only allowed one hit.

Weston Wilson went 3-4 from the plate Sunday.  Glenn Batson got his first ACC start, but had to leave after getting hit in the face by a pitch.

The Tigers took the lead in the first inning.  Tyler Slaton singled and then advanced to third on an error on a pickoff throw.  Steven Duggar hit a sacrifice fly to score Slaton and Clemson led 1-0 after one.

Notre Dame got on the board with a run in the second with a run and added another in the third to take a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the fifth they scored again to stretch the lead to 3-1.

The Irish weren’t done as they added two insurance runs i the eighth.

The Tigers are now 2-6 since winning the series over South Carolina.  Clemson falls to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in the ACC with the loss.  Tuesday night the Tigers travel to Coastal Carolina.
