Instate sophomore hits Junior Day

D’Marco Jackson, one of the top instate prospects in the class of 2017, visited Clemson earlier this month for Junior Day.

The 6-1, 190-pound linebacker/safety caught up with TheClemsonInsider recently for an interview.

“I thought it was real good. It was very interesting and everything. It was a good visit with the coaches and everybody. It felt good, it felt like a place I wanted to be, like home kind of,” Jackson said.

It was the second trip to Tigertown for the Broome High School sophomore. Visit No. 1 was in the fall for the Syracuse game.

“All of the fans were into it. The people were chanting ‘We Too Deep’ and it was very hype. It was really nice,” Jackson said.

While at Junior Day, he spent time getting to know several of the Clemson coaches, including defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

“He came and sat with me in the locker room, we had a good talk. He talked with my parents and everything. Then, coach (Jeff) Scott found me at the beginning, he introduced me to coach Venables,” Jackson said. “In the locker room, coach Dabo (Swinney) came, coach Scott brought him to me, then coach Venables, they all talked to my parents.

“It was a good visit. My parents really loved it. We really loved it and everything.”

What was the message from the coaches?

“It was really just about, they’re just interested. They were telling me they want me to come back. I plan on coming back for the spring game. We were talking about camps and everything.”

As a sophomore, Jackson had 104 tackles (65 solos), two interceptions and three forced fumbles. He also rushed for 756 yards and seven touchdowns.
