Tigers pound Hokies

Blacksburg, VA  – The hits came early and often for Clemson as they scored 15 runs on 21 hits to win the series with a 15-8 win over Virginia Tech.

Three freshmen or red-shirt freshmen let the hit parade for the Tigers Saturday.  Reed Rohlman went 3-4 with four RBIs.  Glenn Batson went 2-4 with three RBIs and Chase Pinder went 2-5 with three RBIs.  All of the Clemson starters except Slaton had multiple hits on the afternoon.

Brody Koerner picked up the win for the Tigers going 5.0 innings and giving up nine hits, four runs and four earned runs.

The Hokies jumped out to a lead with their first run of the series in the first when a double play plated a runner.

Clemson took the lead in the top of the second.  With one out Weston Wilson singled.  Glenn Batson hit his first homerun for the Tigers with two away to make it 2-1 Tigers.

Virginia Tech added a run in the second to tie the game 2-2.

In the top of the third Clemson regained the lead.  Tyler Slaton tripled to lead things off for the Tigers.  With one out Tyler Krieger walked.  Reed Rohlman hit a double to left center to score Slaton and Krieger.  Chris Okey doubled to score Rohlman.  Weston Wilson singled to score Okey and put the Tigers up 6-2.

The Tigers took command in the fourth.  Eli White singled to start the inning.  With one away Duggar singled to center.  Tyler Krieger was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Reed Rohlman singled to right scoring White and Duggar.  Chris Okey singled to left scoring Rohlman.  With two away Chase Pinder hit a two-run home run to make it 12-3 Tigers.

Virginia Tech added a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Clemson added some insurance in the sixth. Reed Rohlman doubled with no outs.  Weston Wilson hit a ground-rule double to score Rohlman.  Chase Pinder doubled down the line to score Wilson.  Glenn Batson singled to left to score Pinder and put Clemson up 15-4.

The Tigers moved to 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the ACC with the win.  Clemson goes for the sweep Sunday at 1 PM.
