Clemson, SC – Wake Forest defeated Clemson 7-3 Saturday at Doug Kingsmore to win the series in a game that was very similar to Friday night’s. The Tigers 12-13 start is the worst in coach Leggett’s career at Clemson.
Brody Koerner got the start for Clemson, but left in the fourth. He went 3.2 innings giving up 9 hits, six runs and five earned runs.
Tyler Slaton had a great day for the Tigers, coming up just a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
The Tigers took the lead on the first pitch of the game when Tyler Slaton hit a solo home run over the Cajun Cafe.
Wake Forest took the lead with four runs in the third. Once again an error came back to haunt the Tigers. With one out Freedman reached on an error by Pinder. The Deacon’s were also helped by a mental mistake by Wilson who grabbed a slow ground ball just before it rolled foul.
In the top of the fourth Wake Forest added two more runs to stretch their lead to 6-1. A solo home run in the seventh stretched the lead to 7-1.
Clemson plated one run in the seventh. Chase Pinder walked to start the inning. Tyler Slaton singled with two outs to score Pinder, but was caught at second trying to stretch the single to a double.
Steven Duggar hit his first home run of the season in the eighth to cut the Deacon’s lead to 7-3.
The Tigers tried to rally in the ninth. Chase Pinder singled to left. Eli White walked with one out. Tyler Slaton hit a shot down the first base line but it was caught and White was doubled up at first to end the game.
Clemson fell to 12-13 overall and 4-7 in the ACC with the loss. The Tigers look to avoid the sweep when the two teams battle Sunday at 1 PM.
