Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said the the defense was the big news of the scrimmage on Wednesday.”We did some good things on both sides,” he said. “Offensively, the best thing we did was run the ball. We really did some good things in the running game, but we were just really poor in finishing drives.
“We had good plays, but we can’t eat the points. You have to finish drives. We did a really poor job of that all day today.”
But Swinney said it was a tremendous performance by the defense all day. They gave up a couple of big plays, but then they rallied and got pass breakups, interceptions and blocked field goals.
“They did everything that they needed to do to get some stops,” Swinney said.
The defense was not perfect, though. They allowed the offense to get out of a bad situation when they started a drive deep at their own one-yard line and moved it to midfield.
