J.T. Cauthen, one of the top sophomore wide receivers in the country, visited Clemson on Wednesday.
The Waxhaw-Cuthbertson (NC) four-star spoke with TheClemsonInsider later that night.
“I had a great trip. The weather was great. The tour was nice and the people were nice and friendly. I liked everything about it,” Cauthen said.
He added, “I got to see where the athletes study and get tutoring at, Vickery Hall. I got to see how all the students, whenever they get to their class, the transportation to their class. I got to see a lot of new stuff that I didn’t get to see before when I was at previous visits.”
Tight ends coach Danny Pearman serves as the primary recruiter to Clemson.
“Coach Pearman, I was with him most of the day. I really like him,” Cauthen said. “I got to talk to Dabo (Swinney) a lot today. I really like him. And I got to see coach (Jeff) Scott.
“We actually watched film today with the players, got to go over some film. That was fun, got to see what it was like to be a Tiger down there, got to see their daily routine.”
Cauthen first met Swinney when he visited for the Boston College game during his freshman year.
“He’s just a real down-to-earth guy, a great coach,” Cauthen said. “I could see myself spending a lot of time with him and having no problems at all. He seems like a great guy.”
The 6-2, 200-pound prospect went to South Carolina on Monday. On Saturday, he’ll attend the Georgia spring game.
Clemson, Tennessee, N.C. State, UNC, South Carolina and West Virginia have offered.
“I’m still kind of picking and choosing right now, going on these visits, trying to figure out which ones are on my list,” Cauthen said. “But I don’t have a leader right now.”
As a sophomore, he had 107 catches for 1,300 yards with 15 touchdowns.
