Monday Morning Quarterback

By Will Vandervort.

Okay, I admit it! I was wrong about Nick Schuessler.

After weeks of hearing how wonderful the young man has been in practice and this and that from Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, I finally saw for myself that it was not Coach Speak.

Schuessler played extremely well in the Orange & White Game this past Saturday as he threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 11 of 17 passing. His 11 completions included a 50-yard pass to Mike Williams to open the game and then touchdown passes of 19 and 20 yards to Williams and Artavis Scott before halftime.

In between, he also had a 21-yard run and threw a 24-yard pass down the middle to spring sensation Hunter Renfrow. Later on he threw a 20-yard pass to tight end Jay Jay McCullough and an 18-yard pass to Scott to set up a one-yard C.J. Fuller touchdown, and it still wasn’t halftime.

But as good as all of those throws were, Schuessler’s best throw wasn’t even a completion.
