Clemson among five finalists for 4-star OT

Clemson is one of five finalists for four-star offensive tackle Clark Yarbrough.

Virginia, Florida, Stanford and Duke are all vying with the Tigers for the No. 10 ranked offensive tackle in the class of 2016, according to Scout.

Clint Alexander, Yarbrough’s head coach at Woodberry Forest (VA), recently told TheClemsonInsider that his 6-foot-6, 276-pound left tackle is targeting a late May commitment.

“He’s shooting at trying to finish the last day of spring ball, to try and have his decision,” Alexander said.

Because Woodberry Forest is in session six days a week, he doesn’t think Yarbrough will take any visits before the announcement.

“We do six days of spring practice, so that’s the other thing, I think he knows a lot of people are going to come and see him,” Alexander said, “So he doesn’t have to go on the road and miss class on Friday and Saturday.”

Alexander added, “He’s just trying to mull it over with his family and figure where he’s at.”

Displaced from his home in New Jersey by Hurricane Sandy, Yarbrough’s family moved in with his grandparents, who live in Charlottesville.

Before going out for the Woodberry Forest football team, Yarbrough hadn’t played an organized version of the sport in high school.

“I thought he was going to be that (Rob) Gronkowski tight end that I’ve always wanted,” Alexander said. “He was 6-5, maybe 200 pounds…so we were pretty excited about him.

“Then, he rolls into camp about 242 and I’m like, wait a minute. You’re a left tackle, which he didn’t want to hear. Every o-linemen I’ve ever had thinks he’s a tight end anyway, but he did a great job that first year.

“He’s just incredibly physical. And he’s just worked and worked and worked.”

Alexander also offered his scouting report.

“He’s got great feet. He plays on our varsity basketball team as well, so he has great feet. He’s incredibly physical,” Alexander said. “With us, we do a lot with him. We pull him, we run screens with him and he can get out and block on screens, and that’s hard for big guys to do.

“So, to me, that’s one of the things that sets him apart, his ability to track down a safety or a corner in the flats and get a block on him.”
