Schmidt leads Tigers over Gardner-Webb

Clemson defeated Gardner-Webb 7-5 Wednesday night at Doug Kingsmore for their third win in a row.

Clate Schmidt had one of his best performances of the year.  Schmidt went 7.0 innings and gave up four hits, one run and one earned run.

Reed Rohlman was 2-2 with 2 RBIs on the night and Tyler Krieger was 2-4.

The Tigers got on the board in the third with some two-out magic.  With two outs Andrew Cox reached on an error.  Eli White singled and Cox advanced to third.  Steven Duggar doubled down the left field line to score Cox and White.  Tyler Krieger singled to score Duggar.  Reed Rohlman singled to left to score Krieger and put Clemson on top 4-0.

Gardner-Webb plated one run in the top of the fourth.

In the fourth Tyler Slaton doubled with one out.  Glenn Batson singled to score Slaton and put the Tigers up 5-1.

Clemson added some insurance runs in the fifth.  Tyler Krieger singled to right with one out.  Reed Rohlman doubled to score Krieger.  With two outs Chase Pinder doubled to score Rohlman and the Tigers led 7-1 after five.

Alex Schnell ran into trouble in the ninth.  Hyett walked to start the inning before Smith doubled.  Fisher reached on an error by Wilson before Thacker hit a three-run home run.  Pat Krall came in to save the game for the Tigers got the final three outs.

Clemson moved to 21-19 on the season with the win.  The Tigers host Duke for a series this weekend beginning Friday at 6:30 PM.
