Clemson, SC – The Tigers defeated Duke 6-2 Saturday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the first game of a doubleheader.
Matthew Crownover moved to 7-1 on the year with the win. Crownover went 7.0 innings and gave up only five hits, two runs and one earned run. He had seven strikeouts throwing 109 pitches. Jake Long came in and pitched the final two innings for the Tigers.
Chris Okey went 3-4 from the plate while Glenn Batson also had multiple hits going 2-3.
Duke took the lead when the plated one run in the third with the help of a Clemson error.
The Tigers bounced right back to take the lead. Eli White walked with one out. Steven Duggar singled advancing White to second. Both players advanced on a wild pitch. Tyler Krieger singled to put Clemson up 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth Clemson took command of the game. Steven Duggar walked before Tyler Krieger reached on a throwing error. Reed Rohlman reached on an infield single to load the bases. Chris Okey singled to score Duggar. Chase Pinder doubled to score Krieger and Rohlman. With the bases loaded Eli White walked to score Okey and Clemson led 6-1.
Duke added a run on a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
Clemson moved to 21-18 overall and 10-9 in the ACC with the victory. The Tigers and Duke play game two later this afternoon.
