Instant Replay: Georgia 7 Clemson 0

By Trey McCurry.

ATHENS, GA — Here is a look back at Clemson’s (22-19) 7-0 loss to Georgia (21-20) on Tuesday night at Foley Field.

What happened?

The Bulldogs scored four first inning runs on four two-out hits and a costly Tiger error to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Georgia would add a single run in the fifth inning and two runs in the eighth to secure the 7-0 victory as Clemson never really threatened in the contest.

Game-Changing Moment:

The game changed in the both halves of the first inning. Eli White led off the game with a single, but was quickly erased on a double play to end any Tiger momentum. After two quick outs in the bottom of the frame, back-to-back hits gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. A Clemson error allowed another runner to reach and consecutive singles scored three more runs to give Georgia an early 4-0 lead.

What went right?

Honestly, not much went right for the Tigers on Tuesday night. Clate Schmidt had the longest outing of five Clemson pitchers as he allowed a run on a hit in 3.0 innings. White and Steven Duggar accounted for the Tigers two hits.

What went wrong?

Brody Koerner struggled in his first midweek start of the season, allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. All five Clemson pitchers allowed at least one hit while four of the five allowed a run. The Tigers also committed two errors in the contest, including a key error in the first inning.
