Jenkins makes it back to Clemson

Accompanied by his grandfather, De’Riante Jenkins was back in Clemson on Wednesday afternoon.

After close to five hours on campus, the 2016 four-star small forward from West Oaks Academy in Orlando spoke with TheClemsonInsider.

“We were with coach (Steve) Smith all day,” Jenkins said. “He took us around on a tour. He took us to where the athletes study and do all the tutoring. I also went to the gym and saw a couple of guys doing some extra work on their game.”

What was the biggest takeaway from his time with Smith?

“How much they care about their athletes and how they help them with all the tutoring and all that.”

Smith also mentioned the school’s plans to renovate Littlejohn Coliseum.

“They’re spending $60 million on it. When we were in the gym, they were taking stuff down, taking pictures off the wall and all that, getting ready to do it,” Jenkins said.

Originally a 2015 prospect from Lake Marion High School, Jenkins has been to Clemson several times over the years, so he’s very familiar with Tigertown. He currently lists offers from Clemson, East Carolina, USF and Houston, but several others have gotten into the mix and are expressing interest: Providence, Missouri, Wichita State, Texas, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and South Carolina.

The 6-6, 180-pound prospect has no list of favorites.

“I’m really not in a rush,” Jenkins said.

One primary factor will be considered as he moves through the process.

“I really don’t want to go that far from home, but anywhere I go, I think my family will come support me,” he said. “I also want to see how life after basketball would be also and how they’ll develop me.”

As a junior at West Oaks, Jenkins averaged 15 points per game with three rebounds and four assists.

Brad Brownell was not in Clemson during Jenkins’ visit, because he was on the road for the final day of the recruiting period.
