Greenwood DB watches O&W game

K.J. Chamberlain, one of the state’s top defensive backs in the 2016 class, visited Clemson earlier this month for the Orange and White game.

“The trip was good. I enjoyed it. I got to see how the players do in pre-game. Got to meet with the coaches a little bit and just walk around the school,” Chamberlain told TheClemsonInsider, during a recent interview.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound cornerback from Greenwood-Emerald currently lists offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Miami of Ohio, Buffalo, Mercer and Gardner Webb.

Chamberlain remains under evaluation by Clemson and defensive backs coach Mike Reed keeps in touch.

“He treats me well. We talked a little bit about the game and the coverages they were playing, and their defensive scheme,” Chamberlain said, when asked about their conversation at the spring game.

The three-star prospect was impressed with the defensive backs he saw on the field in Memorial Stadium earlier this month.

“They’re very talented. If I go there, I think they would teach me a couple of things. I know some of the guys, so it would be fun,” Chamberlain said.

South Carolina, UNC and Charlotte had him on campus earlier this spring.

As a junior, he led the state with 14 interceptions. Chamberlain also recorded 54 tackles and eight pass breakups.
