White powers Clemson over Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – Eli White hit two home runs and powered Clemson to an 11-3 victory over Georgia Tech Saturday.

Zack Erwin pitched another strong game for the Tigers going 7.0 innings and giving up seven hits, three runs and three earned runs.  Clate Schmidt came on to finish the game for Clemson.

Georgia Tech took the lead with one run in the bottom of the first.

Clemson took the lead in the third.  Weston Wilson walked before Andrew Cox reached on a fielder’s choice.  Eli White hit a two-run home run.  With two outs Tyler Krieger hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot that made it 3-1 Clemson.

In the top of the  fifth Eli White hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot that made it 4-1 Clemson.

The Jacket’s plated another run in the sixth.

The Tigers bounced right back with another run in the top of the seventh.  With one out Eli White hit a triple down the left field line.  Steven Duggar hit a sacrifice fly to score White and put Clemson up 5-2.

Georgia Tech added another run in the seventh to cut Clemson’s lead to 5-3.

In the  top of the eighth Clemson added some insurance.  Chase Pinder singled and advanced to second on a Slaton ground ball.  Weston Wilson walked to put runners on first and second.  Andrew Cox singled but Pinder was thrown out at home.  Eli White walked to load the bases.  Steven Duggar singled to right scoring Cox and Wilson.  Eli White then scored on a wild pitch to put Clemson up 8-3.

Clemson moved to 23-20 overall and 12-10 in the ACC with the win.  The Tigers and Jackets play again Sunday at 1 PM to determine the series winner.
