ATLANTA – Clemson took a one run lead in the tenth inning, but Georgia Tech rallied with two runs with two outs to win the series with a 5-4 victory.
Brody Koerner got the start for the Tigers. After giving up two early runs Koerner settled down and went 5.0 innings giving up five hits, three runs and three earned runs. Jake Long pitched four strong innings for Clemson and gave up one hit and no runs. Clate Schmidt came on to pitch the tenth for the Tigers but gave up two runs.
Georgia Tech took an early lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
Clemson got on the board in the top of the second with one run. Chris Okey was hit by a pitch. Chase Pinder singled to left. With one out Weston Wilson reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Okey.
The Tigers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Weston Wilson and Steven Duggar both hit solo home runs to put Clemson up front 3-2.
Georgia Tech plated a run in the fifth to tie the game 3-3.
Clemson took the lead in the tenth. Steven Duggar hit a one-out single. Tyler Krieger was hit by a pitch. Reed Rohlman singled to left to score Duggar. Chris Okey hit into a double play to end the threat but the Tigers led 4-3 after the top of the tenth.
The lead didn’t last long as Clemson gave up two runs in the bottom of the tenth. all the damage was done with two outs.
Clemson fell to 23-21 overall and 12-11 in the ACC with the loss.
