Rod Hall has options. What he doesn’t have is time.
Though the former Clemson point guard could go to Europe and play professional basketball, that seems to be the only thing that’s certain about his future as an athlete.
On Thursday, Hall worked out before a group of NFL scouts. On Saturday, TheClemsonInsider reported that he could have a chance to play football for Clemson as a fifth-year graduate student.
With the NFL Draft and rookie free-agency period about a week away, Hall is on the clock.
“I’ve got a son to take care of,” he told TCI on Saturday night. “That’s really the biggest thing to me, take care of my son and do what’s right for my family.”
Whether it’s at Clemson or somewhere else, Hall believes his future as a football player would benefit from a season of college ball.
“Not playing football in four years, I don’t know,” he said. “I think college probably would give me a better shot, because it would give me film and give me reps, to get back used to football again, so I think college probably would be the best route, I think.”
As a senior at Laney High School in Augusta, Hall caught 13 touchdown passes and racked up 1,200 yards receiving. He was also voted to the Georgia AA All-State team.
“I’ve got to sit down with my coaches and figure out what I’m going to do next,” Hall said.
In addition to his options with basketball, Hall has received interest from the Ravens, Saints and Panthers as a defensive back or wide receiver. For now, Clemson is the only school that’s expressed interest in him playing football.
“With basketball, I know I can go overseas and possibly get some NBA workouts,” he said. “We’ll see how that goes, but I already know I can go overseas and play right now.”
