From The Road: Cam Burnette

SUMMERVILLE – Wide receiver looks it could end up as the deepest position in South Carolina’s class of 2017.

Included among the wide receivers is Summerville’s Cam Burnette, a 6-foot, 185-pound prospect who’s drawing interest from Clemson, Penn State, South Carolina, Florida State and N.C. State.

Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott stopped by Summerville last week to check in on Burnette, who recently spoke with TheClemsonInsider during an interview at the high school.

“I’m going to go to Clemson for two days, Carolina for two days, Penn State for two days, Florida State (for) three days, N.C. State, Georgia and I think that’s it,” Burnette said of his summer camp plans.

Clemson had him on campus last summer for two days during the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

“It was a good time,” Burnette said. “I enjoyed the campus and how everything was run. I like the coaches a lot. The coaches, I liked talking to them.”

He added, “That was good meeting the coaches and talking to them how to run things.”

While Burnette has yet to add any offers, he thinks a couple of suitors are close to pulling the trigger.

“It’s a little tough to say. If I had to guess, I’d say Clemson, Carolina or Penn State, probably Penn State or Carolina,” Burnette said.

The run on wide receiver talent that’s gone through Clemson over the last few years makes the Tigers that much more intriguing.

“They had Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins, a bunch of big-name receivers…really like the way Clemson runs their offseason. How they ran the season and how they played,” Burnette said.

As a sophomore, he had 30 catches for almost 600 yards with two touchdowns.
