No Tigers taken in rounds 2 & 3

After having two guys drafted in the opening round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Clemson had no one selected in rounds two and three on Friday night.

On Thursday, the Tigers had defensive end Vic Beasley selected No. 8 overall to Atlanta and then later on linebacker Stephone Anthony went to New Orleans with the 31st overall pick. It marked the first time in 33 years two former Clemson players were chosen in the first round and the first time ever both players came on the defensive side of the ball.

The Tigers were hoping to at least have one player selected on Friday, but that did not happen. The highest remaining player left on the board is defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, who came into the night rated as the 84th best player in the draft.

Jarrett became one of the top defensive tackles in the ACC during his time at Clemson. A three-year starter, he tallied 83 tackles as a junior, including 11 tackles for loss and then this past year he was the unquestionable leader of a defense that ranked No. 1 nationally in 11 different categories, including total yards allowed.

The 6-foot-1, 304-pound defensive tackle totaled 73 tackles, to rank third on the team, and had 10 tackles for a loss in 2014. He ended his Clemson career with 3.5 tackles, a caused fumble and a quarterback pressure in the Tigers’ 40-6 victory over Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Jarrett, a third-round projection, will not have to wait until Saturday to see if he will be drafted. The NFL will conclude the 2015 Draft on Saturday from noon-7:30 p.m. with rounds four-seven.

Former Clemson players like defensive end Corey Crawford, defensive end Tavaris Barnes, cornerback Garry Peters and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams could also be chosen in these late rounds.
