Monday Morning Quarterback

By Will Vandervort.

After three days, 15 hours and 256 picks later, I can say I survived watching every moment of the 2015 NFL Draft. It was tiring to say the least, especially considering I was writing stories and interviewing players at the same time while trying to keep up.

So what did I learn about this year’s draft?

The Atlantic Coast Conference has a lot of star power. The ACC finished up the draft in strong fashion, having a total of 47 players taken in the three-day event, the second-highest total in league history. Only the conference’s 51 picks in the 2005 NFL Draft was better.

Florida State led all schools nationally with 11 players drafted. It marked the second time in three years the Seminoles have had the most draftees.

FSU also set an NFL record for a seven-round draft, which started in 1994, with 29 players taken in the last three drafts. The Seminoles had 11 players chosen in 2013, seven last year and 11 this year.

The previous high was 28 originally set by Miami during the 2002-04 drafts and was tied by Southern California in the 2008-10 drafts.

But it wasn’t all just about FSU. In all, nine ACC players were chosen in the first-round, which tied with the Pac-12 for the most in the country.

Clemson had two players taken in the first-round from its No. 1 ranked defense in defensive end Vic Beasley (No. 8 overall to Atlanta) and linebacker Stephone Anthony (No. 31 overall to New Orleans). It marked the first time Clemson had two of its former players selected in the first round since 1982, and the first time both players came on the defensive side of the ball.
