Clemson bombs Georgia Southern 13-5

CLEMSON  – The Tigers hit three home runs Friday night and blasted Georgia Southern 13-5 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Matthew Crownover had another strong performance  for the Tiger’s in what is likely his  last home start.  Crownover went 7.0 innings and gave up six  hits, three  runs and three  earned  runs.

Clemson had 16 hits on the night.  Weston Wilson went 4-5 at the plate.  Robert Jolly was 2-3 with three RBIs.

Georgia Southern plated one run in the second to take  the  lead.

The Tigers got on the board in the second.  Reed Rohlman singled to leadoff.  Chris Okey hit a two-run home run to left center to put  Clemson up 2-0.

In the bottom of the third the Tigers  added two more.  Eli White hit a solo home run to left to leadoff.  Steven Duggar followed with a solo home run to make it 4-1 Tigers.

Clemson plated one run in the fourth.  Weston Wilson singled down the right field line.  Glenn Batson grounded out to short advancing Wilson to second.  With two outs Robert Jolly singled to score Wilson and the Tigers led 5-1.

Georgia Southern added a run in the sixth to cut the Clemson lead to 5-2.

The Tigers broke the game wide open in the  sixth.  With one out Robert Jolly and Eli White walked.  Steven Duggar singled to score Jolly.  Tyler Krieger singled to score White.  Reed Rohlman singled to score Duggar and Krieger and put Clemson up 9-2.

The Eagles added a run in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh the Tigers added some insurance.  Weston Wilson doubled down the line.  Andrew Cox walked before Tyler Slaton singled to right to score Wilson.  Robert Jolly doubled down the left field line to score Cox and Slaton and advanced to third on the throw home.  Eli White hit a sacrifice fly to score Jolly and put the Tigers up 13-3.

Georgia Southern added two runs in the eighth after Brody Koerner came in to relieve Crownover.

Clemson moved to 26-24 on the season with the win.  The Tigers and Eagles play game two Saturday night at 6:30 PM.
