Back When: Thompson

By Hale McGranahan.

The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still several months away.

With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster.

WR Trevion Thompson, Durham-Hillside (NC) – RS Freshman

Thompson committed to Clemson on January 19, 2014, just days after wrapping up his third and final official visit to Clemson. The four-star prospect also considered Ohio State, N.C. State, UNC and West Virginia.

The pledge was  announced on Twitter, “In the Fall of 2014, I will be attending Clemson University!”

Clemson was consistently listed among the favorites throughout Thompson’s recruitment. Others came and went, but the Tigers were consistently listed among his favorite options.

It certainly helped that Clemson first offered when he was a sophomore.

Visits to 2012 and 2013 Orange and White spring games helped make vault the Tigers into serious contention. The most critical trip may have been in 2013 when Thompson brought his mom along for her first visit to the school.

Ohio State hosted Thompson on his first official visit in late November and N.C. State had him in for an official a couple of weeks later. Scheduled officials to West Virginia and UNC were never made.

Upon his arrival last summer, Thompson joined former Hillside teammate Korrin Wiggins.

Robbie Caldwell served as Thompson’s area recruiter, but Jeff Scott also played a significant role in locking him up less than a month before signing day.
