Back When: Scott

The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still several months away.

With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster.

WR Artavis Scott, Tarpon Springs-East Lake (FL) – Sophomore

Scott, a former four-star prospect, was offered by Clemson in January of his junior year.

And at one point during his career as a recruit that he was planning to attend the same college as high school teammate Mason Cole, an offensive tackle who committed to Michigan that February.

About three weeks before Cole’s pledge to the Wolverines, he, Scott and 2016 teammate George Campbell made their first visit to Clemson for junior day. Of the three, Scott was the only one to return to Clemson in June for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

On July 2, 2013, during an ESPNU broadcast from The Opening, Scott announced that he was committed to Clemson. Ranked by Scout as the No. 102 overall prospect in the class of 2014, Scott joined fellow four-star Demarre Kitt and prep school placement Kyrin Priester in the Tigers’ 2014 wide receiver class.

Clemson assistant Tony Elliott played a big part in securing Scott’s commitment. Deshaun Watson was also an integral part in Scott’s decision to jump on board with the Tigers. They formed a strong rapport while working on the field together at camp. That, of course, carried over to their freshman year.

Scott, who picked Clemson over Florida, Michigan, Ohio State and UCF, never wavered after making his pledge.

“I knew that me going there was the right thing to do,” Scott said of Clemson, a couple of months after making the decision. “When I saw it, I just knew that something about it felt like home. I felt like it was a place I knew I could be and spend time playing.”
