Florida commitment adds offer from Clemson

On Wednesday night, Clemson defensive backs coach Mike Reed offered 2016 safety Spencer Perry.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound three-star safety has been committed to Florida since March, but he’s still considering a number of big-time programs, including Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan and Notre Dame.

A little less than 24 hours before he spoke with TheClemsonInsider, Perry was on the phone with Reed.

“They like that I have the size to play right away,” Perry said. “They like the way I move and how I play, as far as me being physical. I’m able to make tackles and play the ball.

“Coach talked to me about what he expects out of his players and different things like that.”

Originally from Auburn High School in Alabama, Perry made the move to IMG in January. Two of his teammates, T.J. Chase and Rahshaun ‘Shaq’ Smith, committed to Clemson earlier this year.

They’re actively recruiting him to Clemson.

“They talk to me every day about it,” Perry said.

Listed by Rivals as three-star and ranked as the No. 28 safety in the class of 2016, Perry has taken notice Clemson’s rise over the last several years.

“Clemson has been good for a while. They have a pretty good chance at winning it all this year,” he said. “They’ve got Deshaun Watson, he’s from Gainesville, a Georgia boy. I know they’ve got good talent at the receiver. They’ve got

Jayron Kearse back there playing safety, so they’ve got some players that can make some plays. They’re going to have a good year this year.”

Perry is going to join a group from IMG and visit Clemson this summer. He also plans to see Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State.

“I might go to Vanderbilt, I’m not sure. I’ve got to check with the Florida coaches and see what they say about that,” he said, “But that’s my plans so far.”

As a junior at Auburn, Perry had 58 tackles, three pass breakups, one interception and a forced fumble.
