The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still several months away.
With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster.
RB [autotag]Wayne Gallman[/autotag], Loganville, Ga. – Redshirt Sophomore
Gallman emerged as one of the top running back targets on Clemson’s 2013 board when he picked up an offer from the Tigers in the spring of his sophomore year (2011) at Grayson High School.
His blend of size and speed fit the profile that new offensive coordinator Chad Morris was targeting.
That summer, Gallman made his first visit to Clemson for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp. In the fall, he was on campus for the Florida State game. The Clemson staff hosted him again in January of 2012 for their Elite Junior Day event.
Running backs coach Tony Elliott had helped work Clemson into contention and by the spring of 2012, the Tigers were the clear-cut leader. On April 11, 2012, Gallman committed to Clemson over several ACC and SEC schools, including South Carolina and Georgia Tech.
Clemson picked up another running back commitment for the 2013 class in July when Tyshon Dye jumped on board. The two four-star prospects got to know one another at the Georgia Junior Bowl earlier that year and shared a friendship throughout the recruiting process.
Two of Gallman’s teammates — Robert Nkemdiche and David Kamara — were also apart of the 2013 class, but Gallman was the only one from the Grayson Trio to sign with Clemson.
Gallman briefly considered visiting other schools, but never followed through. The rumors of Clemson’s move to the Big 12 made him a little uneasy, but those second thoughts were put to bed pretty quickly by Dabo Swinney.
Clemson picked up Gallman’s signature with little to no worry along the way.
