Last fall, [autotag]Stuart Head[/autotag] was a regular at Clemson home games, so he was pretty pumped up about adding an offer from the Tigers.
Cal and Charlotte had already offered the Woodstock-Etowah (Ga.) rising junior by the time he showed up for Tuesday morning’s Dabo Swinney Football Camp workout.
Head, who joined Brent Venables’ linebacker group, was offered by the Tigers’ defensive coordinator before he left campus.
“(Venables) liked the potential I have and the things I already do really well. My size and ground-covering ability was an attraction,” Head told TheClemsonInsider.
Venables told Head (6-4, 190) that his physical development over the next couple of years would dictate his position at Clemson, with linebacker and safety being the options.
For Etowah, Head played free safety. He recorded 140 tackles, 15 pass breakups, had three interceptions and was named to the 6-A All-State team.
“It was a huge deal to me,” Head said of the Clemson offer. “I had visited multiple times this past season and for them to offer me meant a lot. It was something I definitely wanted.”
He added, “I love all the new facilities coming soon and the current ones. The family environment that Clemson has in their program is really special, too.”
Head also enjoyed the coaching he received from Venables.
“He’s very high-energy and fun to play for. I enjoyed talking with him and learning new things from his defensive perspective,” Head said.
After Clemson’s camp, Head picked up camp offers from both UNC and Duke.
“Most importantly, I want to find a school that has a home environment,” he said. “I’d consider strong academics and a solid program reputation.
“Always look at what I could get out of the school rather than just what the school would get out of me.”
