Today we continue our series on the best players Clemson will face this fall. With matchups against Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Florida State, South Carolina and Georgia Tech on the schedule the Tigers face one of the toughest slates in the country.
So who are some of the best players the Tigers will see in 2015? Today we examine the linebackers.
Terrance Smith, Florida State
How he did last season? Started 10 games and recorded 87 tackles.
Why is he ranked here? He was second-team All-ACC in 2014. He opened the season with 12 tackles against Oklahoma State and had a career-high 13 against Clemson. He also had a 94-yard interception return for a TD against Florida.
Brandon Chubb, Wake Forest
How he did last season? Chubb ranked second on his team with a career-best 109 tackles a season ago.
Why he is ranked here? Many perceive him to be a first-team All-ACC candidate this season. He also recorded 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks and forced two fumbles in 2014.
Keith Kelsey, Louisville
How he did last season? He Started all 13 games at linebacker for the Cardinals and finished second on the team in tackles with 87. He tallied seven games with five or more tackles.
Why is he ranked here? He ranked third on his team in sacks with six and recorded eight tackles against Clemson and nine against Georgia in the Music City Bowl.
Steven Daniels, Boston College
How he did last season? He was second on his team with 68 tackles, including 57 solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.
Why is he ranked here? He had his best game against Clemson last year, registering a career-best 11 tackles, including a career-high three tackles for loss.
P.J. Davis, Georgia Tech
How he did last season? He led the Yellow Jackets with 119 tackles, while starting 13 games.
Why is he ranked here? He was second the team with 8 tackles for loss and was named honorable mention All-ACC.
James Burgess, Louisville
How he did last season? He started 12 games at linebacker for the Cardinals and finished third on the team with 71 tackles.
Why is he ranked here? He gets after the quarterback and disrupts things behind the line of scrimmage. Burgess had three sacks and 10 tackles for loss in 2014. He also three interceptions.
Marquel Lee, Wake Forest
How he did last season? He finished third on the Wake Forest defense with 101 tackles.
Why is he ranked here? As a sophomore he led the Demon Deacons with 12 tackles for loss and was second with four sacks. Lee was also credited with a forced fumble.
