With the additions of Mark Fields and Van Smith, some of Charlotte’s best have been added to the Clemson secondary for 2015.
The Tigers continue to mine the Queen City help in the defensive back field. Mike Reed, who took over the secondary coach job in 2013, offered 2017 cornerback Jacobe Clement just days after he was in for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.
“Coach Mike Reed told me he would like to offer before I left camp Saturday, then he talked to my mom (Monday) morning to make it official,” Clement told TheClemsonInsider, during a recent interview.
Along with Clemson, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have offered the 6-1, 180-pound rising junior from South Mecklenburg High School
“That was a special one,” he said of Clemson. “That’s big-time ball right there.”
Clement spoke highly of his experience in Tigertown.
“I loved it. Coach Reed is my type of guy. I feel like he could make me a great player,” he said.
Clement was also impressed with the surroundings.
“The campus was nice,” he said. “They told me all about the new $65 million football facility and I feel like that town and campus would be ecstatic after games.”
As a sophomore, he had 30 tackles, 10 pass breakups and three interceptions.
