Four-star edge rusher returns

Malik Herring, one of the top weak-side defensive ends in the class of 2017, returned to Clemson for a Saturday afternoon visit.

Even with a majority  of the Clemson coaching staff out of town on vacation, the four-star from Forsyth-Mary Persons (Ga.) had good things to say about the trip.

“It was a long visit, but I did enjoy the visit,” Herring said, while speaking with TheClemsonInsider on Sunday night.

“What I loved the most was the academic part, like how much they’re on their players and stuff. And they’ll help them get their grades up where they need them. Any help that they need, they’re there when they need it.”

Herring also got an up-close look at the facilities.

“We saw the weight room, the training room, locker room, stadium, then we watched a little clip from the hype video,” he said. “When we talked to the weight trainer, it was the same lifts as my school, so I really liked that part, too.”

Rated by 247 as the No. 83 overall prospect in the class of 2017, Herring’s only other trip of the summer was to Auburn. He’s planning to visit Georgia, LSU, Florida State and hopes to get to Florida.

All have offered except for LSU.

“Everything is equal,” Herring said, when asked about a list of favorites.

His first visit to Clemson was in March for Junior Day.
