The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still a couple of months away.
With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player on the Clemson roster with the Back When series.

The recruitment of Johnson was a relatively swift, quiet operation.
N.C. State, the first school to offer, came during January of his junior year. UNC soon followed. Clemson became No. 3 in late February and the Tigers immediately shot to the top Johnson’s list.
After spending time on campus the previous summer for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp, Johnson was excited Clemson made itself available. Two weeks later, he committed to the Tigers’ 2013 haul as a safety.
Johnson, who was the fourth commitment to the class, was the second prospect to pledge to Clemson on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Defensive end Isaac McDonald, who ended up signing with West Virginia, pulled the trigger in the morning. Johnson popped late in the afternoon.
Former defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison played a significant role in Johnson’s decision. Defensive ends coach Marion Hobby serves as the area recruiter at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School.
Johnson remained firm with his pledge to Clemson over the next nine months, even when Harbison was let go by Dabo Swinney. But even if he was interested, Johnson wouldn’t have had much time to look around. He enrolled at Clemson in January of 2013.
