Why isn’t Watson going to ACC Football Kickoff?

Okay, I have to get this off my chest. Why is an offensive lineman representing Clemson at the 2015 ACC Football Kickoff later this month (July 19-21) in Pinehurst, N.C., when you have one of the nation’s most talked about and revered players on your roster?

On Tuesday projected starting left guard Eric Mac Lain tweeted the following:

Personally, I like Mac Lain. He is a good kid. He is funny and very personable. Professionally, however, he will only be able to give me, and the rest of the media that covers the ACC, very little information when it comes to the 2015 Clemson Tigers.

Where is Deshaun Watson? Why isn’t he going to be at this event?

I mean come on, Clemson! Watson not only is the face of Clemson, but potentially he might be the face of the ACC this year. He is already being talked about by some as the best quarterback in the country. He is one of the favorites to win ACC Player of the Year honors and the Heisman Trophy.

So why isn’t Deshaun Watson representing Clemson?

I kind of hate it for Mac Lain because most of the questions he will be asked is about his quarterback?

Also, he will get railroaded about the Isaiah Battle situation and can true freshman Mitch Hyatt handle the pressure at left tackle. Very few questions will be asked to him about Eric Mac Lain. Most of the questions will be about Watson, Battle and Hyatt. To me that isn’t fair to Mac Lain. He really can’t answer those questions and he should not have to.

I know I sound like a whiny member of the media, and I am, but I do think about my readers. I’m sure each of you want to hear and read about Deshaun Watson. How is the knee? How does he think it will hold up? How good can he be this year? What about all the hype surrounding him? Does it affect him at all?

This is what Clemson and ACC football fans want to see, hear and read about, but I guess they will have to get it from Eric Mac Lain, instead. That sucks for Eric Mac Lain, the media, Clemson and ACC football fans. We want to hear from Deshaun Watson himself, but I guess we will have to wait until August.

By the way, in case you are wondering, defensive tackle D.J Reader will be representing Clemson’s defense.
