An easy Choice

The summer recruiting season is in full-swing. Unfortunately, real, live college football is still a couple of months away.

With that in mind, TheClemsonInsider is taking a look back at the recruitment of each returning player to the Clemson roster with the Back When series.

Clemson moved in with an offer in April of 2013 while Choice was on campus for the Orange and White spring game.

“It was very nice. I liked everything that I saw. It was a very nice campus. They had a good bit of fans at the spring game. I know they’re dedicated and support their team,” Choice said. “That’s a thing that both teams will want — dedicated fans. You can’t ask for anything else, really, in a program. Everything that I saw, I liked it a lot.”

At the time, the three-star running back listed offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.

A few weeks after Choice’s visit, Chad Morris and Jeff Scott stopped by Thomas County Central High School during the May evaluation period. By then, Clemson and Auburn were emerging as the two favorites.

Before the end of the month, Choice decided he was ready bring his recruitment to a close, so he committed to Clemson.

“The togetherness of the team. I enjoyed talking with the coaches, talking with the players and all they said about it,” Choice said. “There is nothing bad at all to say about it. I really enjoyed it when I went up there…I was really impressed with their program, their campus and everything.”

Choice was a four-year starter at quarterback for Thomas County Central. He ran for over 5,000 yards and broke the school’s all-time rushing record, which was held by his cousin Joe Burns, who played running back at Georgia Tech. But a shoulder injury at the end of his senior year cut Choice’s career short.

Two other running backs signed with Clemson in 2014: C.J. Fuller and Jae’lon Oglesby. Fuller arrived to Clemson with Choice last summer while Oglesby set off for prep school at Fork Union.
