Venables invites instate LB to walk-on

Brent Venables invited 2016 Chapman linebacker Landon Holden to join the Clemson football program as a preferred walk-on.

The 6-1, 210-pound prospect from Inman picked up the offer when he was in Clemson last month for the Dabo Swinney Football Camp.

“I had a great time working with (Venables),” Holden said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider.

“He’s, obviously, one of the best linebacker coaches in the entire country. It’s always a joy getting to learn from a guy like that and letting him teach you up for a couple of days. I had a great time. I learned a lot. It was good hearing his evaluation of me.”

What was that evaluation?

“He told me that I had good hips and he liked the way I moved. I have good footwork, just I was a good player, moved around.”

For now, Holden has no other offers, but he’s receiving interest from Wake Forest, Wofford, Appalachian State, Furman, Charlotte and Liberty.

Later this summer, he’ll attend camps at UNC and Charleston Southern. Trips have also been set for Penn and Columbia.

“A lot of the schools, they’re just waiting on me, for the first game of the season and to see my tape. Then, we’ll just go from there,” Holden said.

As a junior, Holden had 125 tackles and six sacks.
