4-star PG likes Clemson, Brownell

Blake Harris, one of the country’s top point guards in the class of 2017, visited Clemson last month and scooped up an offer.

Shortly after returning to his home in Chapel Hill, N.C., the No. 18 ranked

point guard in the country, according to 247, spoke with TheClemsonInsider.

“That was my first visit in a while, but it was good. I was there for about five hours. It was good to watch some of the practice. I talked to the coaches a lot,” Harris said.

The 6-3, 165-pound rising junior was joined by his dad.

“I was pretty sure I was going to get the offer, but I wasn’t really thinking of it during the visit. I watched their guards work out and they had a great work-out,” Harris said.

They, of course, spent plenty of time with head coach Brad Brownell.

“I like his style. They’re in the ACC and he’s doing a pretty good job of beating the Dukes and Carolinas some years…I like that a lot,” Harris said.

Steve Smith, who serves as Harris’ primary recruiter to Clemson, serves as the Tigers’ point man.

“He’s probably the coach that’s talked to me the most so far in my recruiting process. He’s cool,” Harris said. “He’s not real strict about everything. I can really talk to him. I know he knows what he’s doing. I like him a lot.”

Along with Clemson, Miami, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech have offered Harris, who attends The Carlisle School in Virginia.

“I don’t really have a top-five yet. I haven’t really gotten to see the campuses and how the coaches are in person,” he said.

Harris did like what he saw while in Clemson.

“I saw everything was under construction, so I couldn’t really get a whole feel, but I know how nice Clemson is and how they’re trying to get a new stadium,” he said. “I like the small feeling and the close-knit feeling. I met with the academic people and they all seemed nice.”
