Monday Morning Quarterback

I was a little bored last night, and hungry for some football, so I went on line and watched the Clemson-Carolina football game from 1997.

Why that game? Convenience, I guess.

I used the 1997 Clemson-Carolina game as an insert for our All-Modern Team Era series, which yesterday featured the best safeties to have played at Clemson since 1990. It was fun to watch. I saw a couple of longtime Clemson friends get some television time on the sidelines that night. It was cool seeing them so young again.

It was also cool reminiscing. In 1997, I was a young man myself and actually just began my sports writing career earlier that year. I was living in South Georgia and was covering high school football – Valdosta, Coffee High, Lowndes County, Tift County and Colquitt County to name a few of the schools I used to cover. That’s a whole other experience by itself that maybe I will share sometime.

That year also happened to be the second-time I watched a Clemson-Carolina game in person—the first was in 1992, and I really don’t want to write about that one, and you should know why.
