SUWANEE, Ga. – [autotag]Brad Brownell[/autotag] and [autotag]Steve Smith[/autotag] have maintained a long-standing relationship with four-star wing [autotag]De’Riante Jenkins[/autotag].
[autotag]Clemson[/autotag] offered in December, but the relationship between the Tigers’ staff and Jenkins dates back to when he was still a 2015 prospect at Lake Marion High School.
Reclassified to 2016 and now a student at [autotag]West Oaks Academy[/autotag] in Florida, Jenkins is a high-major prospect who’s stock is on the rise.
USF, East Carolina and S.C. State already on the table when Clemson pulled the trigger last December. Georgia Tech, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest have followed suit. Others will head his way if Jenkins plays well during this month’s evaluation period.
In three games during last week’s adidas Uprising Finale, Jenkins averaged 18.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He shot 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from behind the 3-point line.
After putting up 19 and 4 against Compton Magic in [autotag]Upward Stars[/autotag]’ tournament opener, Jenkins spoke with TheClemsonInsider.
“They’re on me pretty hard. We talk pretty much every day,” he said of Brownell and Smith.
According to Jenkins, Clemson’s coaches want him to take on the kind of role K.J. McDaniels had in Tigertown.
“They need a guy like me. They want me to come in and help with the program. Coach Smith is good with wings, like K.J. They compare me to K.J. a lot and saying I could do things like K.J. does and eventually go to the next level,” Jenkins said.
He’s familiar with the campus, having been there several times over the last few years.
“It’s very comfortable. All of the coaches, every time I go there, I meet new people,” Jenkins said.
Along with Clemson, Indiana and Texas are among those making a hard push.
“The last two weeks, a lot of coaches have been hitting me up, knowing the live period is coming up. There were a lot of coaches hitting me up a lot,” Jenkins said.
After the July evaluation period, Jenkins will take the next step in his recruitment.
“Before I start the official visits, I want to narrow the list down sometime in August, hopefully. But, if not in August, I’ll continue to be patient with it,” he said.
Clemson will “definitely” make the cut.
