[autotag]Andrew Papp[/autotag], one of the newest additions to Clemson’s 2015 baseball class, is wrapping up his season with the Post 1 Legion team in Raleigh.
At the end of the summer, he’ll head down to Tigertown to begin his career with [autotag]Monte Lee[/autotag] and the [autotag]Clemson[/autotag] baseball program. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher from [autotag]Leesville Road High School[/autotag] will bring an impressive resume to Clemson.
As a senior, he went 7-2 with a 1.21 ERA. He had 70 strikeouts over 19 walks in 62 innings of work. In postseason play his ERA was 0.93.
Voted 4A Pitcher of the year, Papp was also selected to the NCHSCA All-Star team. Perfect Game named him an honorable mention All-American. Perfect Game also placed Papp on the Atlantic – All Region second team.
“I just really liked (Lee). I went down to visit Clemson, I just fell in love with the campus,” he said, during an interview with TheClemsonInsider.
“My cousin actually went there, so last year I went to the football game against South Carolina. It was a great experience. When I went down there on my visit, I liked it and I really liked the coaches. So I decided that would be the right fit for me.”
Papp, who received national letters of intent from Clemson and N.C. State, was committed to the Wolfpack before Lee flipped him. On Friday, Papp went public with his decision to sign with Clemson.
“I’ve always really like Clemson, even before I began my recruiting process, since I was little,” he said. “I’ve always liked Clemson, their football team. The town there is just unbelievable.”
Papp looks forward to playing for the coach who convinced him to leave his hometown program.
“I really like Monte Lee’s philosophy, too. Where I came from, my high school coach really worked on pitching and defense, as well,” Papp said. “I feel like Monte has the same philosophy. If you can get it done on the mound and can get it done in the field, your bats can help you out a little bit.”
