Clemson played host to Orlando-Bishop Moore lineman [autotag]Jonathon MacCollister[/autotag] on Thursday.
It was the first visit to Tigertown for MacCollister, a three-star defensive end, according to Rivals.
“I had an awesome trip. I loved it,” he said, during an interview withTheClemsonInsider on Thursday night.
“I walked around, saw the indoor facility, the stadium, the weight room. They gave me the whole 9-yards. I got to meet most of the coaching staff.”
Co-offensive coordinator [autotag]Jeff Scott[/autotag] and offensive line coach [autotag]Robbie Caldwell[/autotag] offered MacCollister after a stop in Orlando during the May evaluation period. The two [autotag]Clemson[/autotag] assistants were at his side for much of the visit on Thursday.
“They were just stressing to me about how much that it’s a family thing up there at Clemson,” MacCollister said. “Basically, how much a family it is up there and they have everybody back. When you graduate, you’re just not — they’re not done with you. You can always come back, because most of those coaches there used to play for Clemson, too.”
During the visit, MacCollister took a picture next to The Rock, like most recruits do while making the rounds in Clemson. Afterwards, he posted it on Twitter.
“What stood out to me was definitely the stadium. The stadium was just amazing. Seeing The Hill and Howard’s Rock was just breathtaking,” he said.
MacCollister enjoyed the family atmosphere fostered by the Clemson staff. The coaches also discussed his future on the field, if he chooses to go to sign with the Tigers.
“They were saying, the film they watched, they really liked me at offensive line, but they didn’t really have a lot of defensive stuff,” MacCollister said. “(Scott) said he was going to get with the defensive staff and see how they like my film.
“They said it also depends how my body fills out, because right now it’s in between. They said I could go to offensive tackle or defensive end. It’s how my body ends up shaping out.”
Like Clemson, Auburn offered him to as an offensive lineman. MacCollister will visit The Plains on Friday.
“Definitely Clemson is probably my top favorite and Auburn is up there, too. They’re showing a lot of interest,” he said. “But, yeah, definitely Clemson and Auburn are my top two favorites right now that I like.”
MacCollister’s other ACC/SEC offers include Boston College, Duke, Kentucky and UNC.
