Hall commits to Clemson

The recruiting momentum continues for head coach Monte Lee and the Tigers with the commitment by Sam Hall, one of the top 2017 prospects in North Carolina.

The 6-2, 185-pound prospect from Hampstead visited Clemson on Wednesday and committed before leaving campus. His first stop in Tigertown was a week earlier, while on the way to the Perfect Game World Series.

“I took a week of praying and thinking, mostly praying, because I keep God in everything I do, so I went back on a visit on the way back home to North Carolina yesterday, so I committed yesterday,” Hall told TheClemsonInsider on Thursday, shortly after the announcement was made.

Ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 144 player in the 2017 class, Hall is a premium athlete who could play shortstop at Clemson.

“I can play anywhere on the field. They said, if it comes down it, I’ll play anywhere, so it doesn’t really matter,” he said.

Hall committed to Clemson over offers from N.C. State and Georgia Tech.

“The biggest thing for me was that it was a small town and it was a college town. I knew that everybody loves Clemson, loves Clemson baseball and is all about it. That’s what I love,” he said. “I want atmosphere and I know that’s what I’m going to get at Clemson. I’m just so excited. The coaches were awesome. The facilities were top-notch. It was unbelievable.”

The opportunity to play for Lee was one that he didn’t want to pass up.

“He was an awesome guy, really awesome guy. Very cool. Country guy, that’s what I love. I love that southern kind of attitude about him,” Hall said. “I know that he did big things at College of Charleston. Nobody really knew about them until they started doing big things in baseball, and that’s what he did.”

As a sophomore, Hall hit .423 with three homers and 23 RBI. He’s the seventh commitment for the Tiger’s 2017 class.
