Swinney talks Lamar, Pollard

Before wrapping up his sit-down at last month’s ACC media days, Dabo Swinney confirmed that he would continue to promote prospects who sign financial aid agreements with Clemson.

Swinney made good on his word before fielding questions during Tuesday’s press conference. Earlier that afternoon, [autotag]Clemson[/autotag] announced it had received the necessary paper work from offensive lineman [autotag]Sean Pollard[/autotag] and linebacker [autotag]Tre Lamar[/autotag].

“Talk about Christmas in August with Tre Lamar and Sean Pollard signing up to be Tigers,” Swinney said. “Man, I can’t tell you how excited we are about those two guys.

“Pretty cool to be able to talk to y’all about it, here on Aug. 4. Y’all all know all the accolades, but here’s what I want you to know: Pollard, you can’t go find anybody better as an offensive linemen. He’s the epitome of what we want. Same thing with Tre Lamar. “

Lamar, a four-star from Roswell Ga., is ranked by Rivals as the No. 104 best prospect in the class of 2016. As a junior, he had 131 tackles, seven pass breakups and four sacks.

He committed to the Clemson on July 17 while on campus for the All-In Cookout. Seven months earlier, Pollard pulled the trigger during an announcement at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, N.C. Also a four-star, Rivals ranks Pollard as the No. 192 overall prospect in the country.

Swinney said they’re good additions to the program, both on and off the field.

“These are great, great (players) that fit everything we strive to achieve here at Clemson and how we try to achieve it,” Swinney said. “Great students, great character, tremendous families, so we’re really, really excited about those two guys and their future here.”
