In late June, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables informed Miami-Columbus cornerback [autotag]Trajan Bandy[/autotag] that he had an offer from the Tigers.
Bandy, who’s listed as a four-star by Rivals and ranked as the No. 27 cornerback in the class of 2017, was more than happy to add Clemson to his list of suitors.
“I remember coach Brent Venables being in contact with my coach. I was lifting weights that day when I got the call from coach, he called me over and told me that Brent Venables offered me,” Bandy said, during a recent interview with TheClemsonInsider.
“(Venables) said he liked my film and liked the way I play.”
Venables shared a few of the ins and outs of the Clemson program.
“They want student-athletes. They want respectful guys. They wants guys that are going to work hard, want guys to work hard on the field and off the field. They want guys to work hard in the classroom that get along with their teammates,” Bandy said. “He’s seen that in me and that’s why he offered me.”
Waiting to make his first visit up to Clemson, Bandy hopes to be on campus in the fall for the Notre Dame game.
“I’m pretty excited to go watch a game there,” he said. “I know I’m going to be watching them this year. I really just like them. I’m excited for the team. I’m excited about the school and getting up out of Miami and looking somewhere else.”
Tennessee and Georgia have already had him on campus. Along with Clemson and Tennessee, Bandy holds offers from Cincinnati, Nebraska, Rutgers, USF and Temple.
“Just a great coaching staff, great academics and off the field. Just a good school overall,” Bandy said, when asked about the primary factors that he’ll consider through the process.
He added, “They push their guys to the limit. They want student-athletes. That’s pretty much it. Being able to get on the field early and playing football, just doing what I love to do.”
As a sophomore, Bandy registered 40 tackles, eight interceptions, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
